This week, we are heading to the lush and mostly shaded Santa Anita Canyon for a hike to Mt. Zion and an optional shorter hike to St…urtevant Falls.
Also, just a reminder that the address to the potluck will be given at the start of this hike… if you are planning to attend the potluck, but not the hike, send a msg. to Tony P. D. with your request.

Date and Time: Sunday, April 15, 2012, 7:00 AM sharp!!

Descriptions:
Mt. Zion: Option #1: 9.5 miles roundtrip with 2,000′ elevation gain/loss
Hiking Difficulty: Level 3 (details)

Sturtevant Falls: Option #2: (Easy) 3.7 miles roundtrip with 700′ elevation gain/loss
Hiking Difficulty: Level 1 (details)

Meeting Location for both hike options: Chantry Flats Recreation Area
From the 210 freeway, exit at Santa Anita and continue North on Santa Anita about 4.8 miles (it becomes a winding mountain road that ends at the parking lot). Meet at the gate on the descending road next to the bathrooms. Come early as parking can be a challenge as it gets later.

*Adventure Pass is needed for each parked vehicle in this area. The National Forest Adventure Pass is a requirement by the US Forest Service for vehicles parked within certain recreation sites and areas in the forest. You can purchase either a day pass for $5.00 or an annual pass for $30.00. For more information on the Adventure Pass, please visit the US Forest Service website.
