The entrance to Hellman Wilderness Park will be on your right.  Parking lot is small (~20 spots) but street parking is available (as always pay attention to the signs). No restrooms available at this park.</p>

<p>Thanks to everyone who came out for the Hiker Orientation last week and our first hike of the season this past Sunday!  We hope that you will continue hiking every week with us and enjoying all the hikes we have planned for this season.</p>
<p>This week, in celebration of Mother&#8217;s Day, we are heading to Lower Scholl Canyon Park for a nice easy hike.  This would be a perfect family outing for Mother&#8217;s Day before heading to brunch!</p>
<div><strong>Date and Time</strong>:  Sunday, May 12, 2013, 7:00 AM sharp!!<strong>Descriptions</strong>: 3.6 miles roundtrip with ~600&#8242; elevation gain/loss<br />
An out and back trail, the first portion will be relatively flat, with some rolling hills in the second half.  The hike is mostly exposed to the sun, with little shade.</p>

2849 E Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale, CA 91206<br />
From the 134, take Harvey Street exit and head north.  Make right east bound on Glenoaks Blvd, and continue approx 1.5 miles. Make a slight right on to Glenoaks Canyon Drive.  This leads into the park.</p>
<p>If you pass a set of gates and sign for the Scholl Canyon Golf &amp; Tennis Club and are headed up a steep uphill, you have gone too far.  Turn around make the first left hand turn into Lower Scholl Canyon Park.</p>

<p>We are so excited to start another season of hiking!  We will meet new people and continue spending time with our regular hikers.  Many new places to explore and admire some of what nature has to offer.  For our first hike of the new season, we are heading to Monrovia Canyon Falls!  An easy beginner hike that is good for the family.  Please bring your friends and family who have always wanted to try hiking.  Start to train weekly to slowly build the stamina for our upcoming longer hikes.</p>

<p>Off the 210 Freeway, exit Myrtle Avenue, drive through Old Town Monrovia to Foothill Blvd, turn right, go two lights to Canyon Blvd, turn left, drive through residential area for about 1 mile staying to the right, turn right into Canyon Park at the 3-foot-tall sign.</p>
<p>PLEASE NOTE: The group will be meeting at &#8220;The Gate.&#8221;  This is the gate that opens for cars to drive into the park.  We will meet here because parking in the park is $5.00 and this gate is not always open on time in the morning for car entry.  So please meet the group at the gate and we will walk into the park together.</p>

<p><strong>Meeting Location</strong>:  Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 5151 Dunsmore Ave, La Cresenta-Montrose, CA 91214</p>
<div>From the <a rel="nofollow">210, take the Pennsylvania Avenue</a> exit, go North towards Mt Lukens.  Turn left (west) on Foothill, then right (North) on New York Ave.  Continue left on Markridge and then turn right into the park.  Meet at the end of the road where the Dunsmore Canyon trail begins.</div>

The trail is exposed much of the way, so everyone should bring sunblock, hats, and plenty of water (3 liters per person).</div>

From the 210, take the Lake Avenue exit, go North from Pasadena into Altadena.  Continue on the road as it climbs a hill and park near the sharp left hand turn outside the Cobb Estate.  Meet in front of the large iron gate.</p>

<p><strong>Meeting Location</strong>:  From the 210 freeway, exit Grand Avenue in Glendora.  Go north on Grand Ave. for 1.7 miles to Sierra Madre Blvd. and turn right (east).  Drive 2.0 miles to Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) and turn left (if you cross the wash and dead-end at Valley Center, you&#8217;ve gone a block too far).  Drive north on GMR 0.6 mile to Big Dalton Canyon Road and turn right.  Drive 0.5 mile and park on the right side of the street (south) across from the signed trailhead on the north side of the street.</p>

<p>Hiking Difficulty: Level 3 (details)</p>
<p>Meeting Location: Take the 210 to the Baseline Drive exit. Make a quick left, then right onto Padua Ave. Head north and make a right onto Mt. Baldy Road toward Mount Baldy Village, then turn left onto Glendora Ridge Road. Drive about 4.2 miles past Cow Canyon Saddle to a turnoff on the left hand side of the road. Park here and display your Adventure Pass.</p>
<p>*Remember there is no cell service in this area*</p>
<p>*An ADVENTURE PASS is required for each parked vehicle in this area. The National Forest Adventure Pass is a requirement by the US Forest Service for vehicles parked within certain recreation sites and areas in the forest. You can purchase either a day pass for $5.00 or an annual pass for $30.00. For more information on the Adventure Pass and where to purchase one, please visit the US Forest Service website.*</p>
