Pasadena Marathon Support

Hello Hikers,
Hiking is not just about blasting calories and eating after wards. It is about, in part, about camaraderie, about helping and supporting others, and most importantly, about making new friends. On May 20, we will like to take a day off from hiking. As such…, there will not be a hike on May 20, but instead we would like you to help support and cheer our fellow group, the Pasadena Pacers Running Club, as they bike and run the Pasadena Marathon. They are in need of volunteers for the water station, people who can cheer and support their tent, and people who can celebrate with the runners as they cross the finish line.

for more info. click or go onto the Survey link below:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDBHUDdMU0RwcHNGbkhnZ05NeWduWFE6MQ

If you are interested in biking the course, Tony P. Delgado would like to get a group together. Send him a message if you are interested.

We sure hope you can make it!!!

See you all on Sunday morning on May 20!!

Your Leaders,
Dr. Kevin, Debbie, Matt, Julia, Tony, and Todd.

Grand Hiking Cycle Finale – 5 Peaks above Pasadena

Our last hike was a Blast!!! Our hikes are getting better and better… we have an amazing group of hikers…
in Jason’s words “Another great hike with PHP. We didn’t plan on going to Wilson again (just within a mile), but we didn’t want to pass the No Trespassing signs… (to Harvard Peak), so (we) back up to the Mt Wilson cafe to eat our cake, ice cream, juice bars, and watermelon. Yeah, you read that right, and we hiked it up, didn’t buy it at the cafe. Over 5000′ of elevation with 20 (lbs.) of ice cream and juice bars in my pack”.

Yeah, you read that right!!! We were having a feast at the Mt. Wilson Cafe… Chiffon cake, Ice Cream, Fruit bars, Popsicles, and watermelon… special thanks to Jason for carrying the ice cream and fruit bars and to Edith for getting and carrying a 20 pound watermelon… and very special thanks to Frances for making the Chiffon cake and getting the ice cream/fruit bars…

For the last hike of this hiking season, we are planning an epic hiking adventure for all of you — “5 Peaks Above Pasadena.”

One hike, 5 peaks, 18.5 miles, 5,500 ft approx gain and some pretty excellent views. Maybe 6 peaks if you count Echo Mountain, but that is not in the cards unless we want to make a stop on the way back. We’ll first make our way up to Inspiration Point and continue around Mt. Lowe to Mt. Disappointment, and San Gabriel Peak. On our way back, we’ll bag Mt. Markham and then the Mt. Lowe summit before descending back to the trailhead.

*The route will be mostly exposed to the sun, so please prepare accordingly – hats, sunscreen and plenty of water (at least 3 liters) and food/snacks.*

Date and Time: Sunday, May 13, 2012, 6:30 AM *earlier start time due to expected warm weather*

Descriptions: 18.5 miles roundtrip with 5,500′ elevation gain/loss
Hiking Difficulty: Level 5 (details)

Mt. Yale & Mt. Harvard, via Jones Peak & Hastings Peak

Hey Hiking Pacers,
Our hike to Mt. Wilson was a hard hike with amazing views and delicious rewards…

This week, we are heading to Mt. Harvard and Mt. Yale!

Now, this hike is a little harder than the one to Mt. Wilson due to the longer distance, but I do not have a doubt that our core/regular group will be able to handle it.

Hike to Henninger Flats

Hey Hiking Pacers,

Here we go again … we are cancelling Cooper Canyon once more due to more snow that is predicted to fall this weekend.  It may be highly impossible to drive on the 2 highway to get to our trailhead.  So sorry for any confusion we may have caused, but we were optimistic that the weather would clear up this week, but it doesn’t look that way and we have our hikers’ safety as our number one concern.

With that said, we are changing this Sunday’s hike to a familiar local hike to Henninger Flats!  This is a popular hike with the group.  Hope that you can join us for another adventure!

Date and Time:  Sunday, March 18, 2012, 7:00 AM sharp!!

Descriptions: 7.6 miles roundtrip with 1,570′ elevation gain/loss
Hiking Difficulty: Level 2 (details)

Meeting Location: Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena 91107.  Meet the group behind the yellow gate.

*No Adventure Pass needed*
